Inspired by the freedom
and creativity of jazz with challenge of spontaneous
compositions, Mike Asetta has applied the classical and
technical training gained at Yale University to the music
he creates. Mike studied jazz with the internationally
renowned double bassists Michael Moore and Gary Karr. He has performed
for more than three decades including extended periods with orchestras from the Yale School of Music (Yale
Philharmonia), the United States Air Force Band, and the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra
(under Buddy Morrow's direction).
International
performance sites where Michael Asetta has played include the Royal
Concert Hall, Nottingham, England, Carnegie Hall, New York
City, New Orleans Blue Room, Seoul Arts Center, Korea, US
Ambassador's Residence, Budapest, Hungary, San Francisco
Davies Hall, and many other sites in Portugal, Norway, Germany,
Spain, Belgium, Greece, Turkey, and more!
Mike records and performs only with
respected, knowledgeable, elite musicians and is personally sought after as a
distinguished bass player in a number of groups. Currently he performs
throughout the NYC, New Jersey, and Connecticut region. Recent
performance highlights include an invitation to the Kennedy Center in Washington DC
with Christian Sands (recorded live and viewable on the
Kennedy Center website under Millennium Stage events). Mike played in the
largest free jazz festival on the east coast- the DuPont Clifford Brown Jazz
Fest in Wilmington, Delaware. He performed at the New York City Jazz Club "Swing 46". Beginning 2005 with an orchestra appearance at the Stars and Stripes Inaugural ball in Washington
DC was an exciting honor! He joined Napua Davoy at a recent Hartford International Jazz Fest and
shared the stage with
Christian Sands for the Paul Brown Jazz Series.
Mike graduated from the Hartford
Conservatory and later completed a three year program at
Yale University leading to a Certificate in Performance. He offers private double bass and electric bass
lessons and teaches classes organized by the Neighborhood
Music School in New Haven, Green Farms Academy in
Westport, and formerly with the Hartford Conservatory.
